This series is about texture.
A rolling-down-the-hill exhilaration and exhuberation of texture.
There are three series of work in these pieces so far, each one using a different specific technique in order to fashion them.
The Sculptural Paintings use a polymerized gypsum applied for the base texture onto a wooden cradle, the surfaces of which are then worked with both paint and assemblaged objects.
The Verdigris Dream series are done on pre-stretched canvas and use copper leafing to which a chemical patina is applied. They also are fitted with a glass lens under which is the focal point of the design. This elements of this focal point and the added elements on the outer surface of the canvas are mixed-media, and sometimes are also worked with additional applied pigments.
The Encaustic Assemblages are on heavy 4-ply rag board and wood cradles overwhich have been applied mutiple layers of colored and translucent waxes. The wax is sometimes applied over collaged printed paper images. The printed images are taken from found printed materials or are images or photos which I have digitally manipulated before printing. Mixed-media materials are also worked into the designs.
